Clear Channel Radio San Diego and Scholastic are teaming up for Read and Rise. Clear Channel's national relationship with Read and Rise started in 2008 with 23 high-need schools in the New Orleans Recovery School District and has now expanded to 31 other Clear Channel markets. Each school receives a Family Reading Intervention program designed to engage more parents and caretakers in their children's literacy development. The goal is to surround kids with books by providing an opportunity for all students to select books that interest them from a large assortment of titles at all reading levels. Each school hosts a special literacy week featuring parent literacy workshops and a low cost/high interest Scholastic Book Fair two times per year. Studies prove that allowing children to have the opportunity to choose books they want to read for fun will lead them to a lifelong love of reading and learning. |
