Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Derek Lowe dazzled in making his Braves debut with eight innings of two-hit ball, as the Philadelphia Phillies started their World Series championship defense with a 4-1 loss to Atlanta at Citizens Bank Park. Lowe (1-0), who signed a four-year deal with Atlanta in January, pitched for the Dodgers for the past four seasons and against the Phillies in last year's NLCS. The veteran right-hander set down the Phillies' potent bats in order six times, struck out four and did not issue a walk. Atlanta did its damage early with four runs over the first two frames on home runs by Brian McCann, Jeff Francoeur and Jordan Schafer. McCann's was a two-run shot in the first while Schafer, who had never played above Class AA before Sunday, homered in his first-ever Major League at-bat and ended 2-for-3 with a walk. Chipper Jones collected two hits, scored a run and set a club record with his 14th Opening Day start with Atlanta. Mike Gonzalez survived a shaky ninth to finish off the win. Brett Myers (0-1) settled down after allowing Atlanta's early long-ball barrage but took the loss after the Phillies managed just four hits, two of which came in the ninth. Myers allowed eight total hits, walked one and struck out six over six innings. Jayson Werth knocked in the Philadelphia's only run in the ninth inning.
