What a tremendous basketball game we witnessed last night. It had all of the drama that the previous five lacked, mainly a tight finish. But we had late game heroics, big time blocks, Ray Allen turning back the clock, and a game 7.

For whatever reason I was heavily rooting for the Heat. I’m not sure if it’s because I simply wanted a game 7, or if I’m the lebron bandwagon.

But just to clarify I did call Spurs in 7. There was one moment where I was hoping for the Spurs to finish it. With under 30 seconds to go, Kawhi Leaonard had two free throws and the chance to make it a possession Spurs lead. He made 1 of 2, the door was left open, and the Heat did just enough to get it to overtime. I was pulling for Kawhi to hit them both. He did not, and San Antonio now has to win a game 7 on the road. No easy task. Former NBA Head Coach and current Assoc. Head coach of ASU Eric Musselman joins us at 4p to discuss.

Just to follow up from yesterday’s blog, Steve Gleason has responded to the ATL morning show hosts that were fired for the bit they did mocking Gleason and his bout with ALS.  He certainly took the high road. Here was his response:

"... I would like to thank the public for their support," the statement read. " 'Defend Team Gleason' now has been officially redefined. Additionally, the DJs have provided genuine apology. Received and accepted. We have all made mistakes in this life. How we learn from our mistakes is the measure of who we are."

Pretty damn impressive.

When scrolling through my twitter feed I often favorite tweets that contain links to articles I’d like to read to prepare for the show. Last night I favorited a tweet that extended a link to Peter King’s MMQB written by fill-in guest Steve Gleason. The former New Orleans Saints Safety is stricken with ALS. The capability of moving have been robbed from Gleason. He types with his eyes. At 20 words a minute, it took him over four hours to write the column

Before I had a chance to read his piece this morning news came down that a sports talk show in Atlanta had somehow mocked Steve Gleason and his edition of MMQB. Needless to say the members of that show have been suspended.

Now I have not heard the audio of the bit that they did. No surprise that it is not posted on their website, but I shutter to think what they did. My bewilderment increased exponentially after I read Gleason’s piece. I thought it was magnificent, poignant, and heart wrenching. I posted the link up above but I wanted to share a few of my favorite excerpts.

“I sit somewhere on the razor's edge. I am so happy to hear my son say, I love you dadu. So happy I want to explode. But I also have fleeting, but agonizing moments of frustration as I watch my friends throw him giggling in the air. I just want so badly to hug him like I used to hug the people I love so much, to brush his hair or hold his hand.”

“The question What caused this? can usually be analyzed and measured precisely. (Scientists are still working on defining the cause of ALS, and I am not sure if football caused my ALS.) On the other hand, interpreting meaning is, in my opinion, quite ambiguous. We cannot measure, verify or confirm meaning. We, as humans, create and apply meaning. When something happens to us, we become the author of meaning. The best philosophy I have adopted is to apply a useful and productive meaning, rather than a negative or destructive meaning, regardless of the circumstances in my life.”

 When the old man is away.. the kids will play. An interesting day on the Drive this afternoon. With Costa out I won't be having a co-host, yet I won't be riding solo. My co-hosts for the day will be Tylhor Dodd and David Gascon.. Mr. Producer and Mr. Update will be riding shotgun today. Truth be told I'm a big fan of both of their sports talk, and I look forward to sharing the entire format with them.

 Although I'm bogarting the interviews to myself. We have a great show ahead. Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle will break down the Raiders mini camp at 3:30, Dana White discusses UFC 161 at 4:30, and Former MLB Manager and current broadcaster with the Diamondbacks Bob Brenly with us at 5:30. We'll get his thoughts on the Padres/DBacks series, and levied suspensions.
