World Baseball Classic… I Don’t Care
I’ve lost any sort of interest in the WBC. I would actually rather watch spring training games than an elite American team. Reason being, it lacks energy. It feels like a glorified exhibition game. And I love MLB, not the WBC. The storylines of this upcoming season overshadow the WBC. Can the Bluejays take over the AL east? Will the Dodgers massive payroll equate to a deep playoff run? Do the Padres truly believe this roster they have can win? This is where my interests lie.
Furthermore, just because we invented this great game doesn’t mean we should win the WBC. In basketball, yes: in baseball, no. Look over a major league roster, the rest of the world is damn good at this game. Watch the talent of Cuba. It’s remarkable! Same with the Dominican Republic, it’s littered with MLB All Stars. Expected dominance is no longer a reason to turn in.
In 2005, the WBC had my full attention. Fast forward to 2013, sorry WBC, you’ve lost me.
