Last night’s ultimate fighter was one unlike any other. It was a co-ed
be honest; I enjoyed a majority if not all of the women’s fights over the men’s.
I think the perception would be it would be a slow paced fight, hair pulling, open hand slaps, and after the initial shock of seeing women it would it would eventually wear off and you’d be bored. Certainly not the case! The pace was quick; technique was impressive (Stand up and ground), and the fights were just overall more entertaining. The women looked to have more FIGHT.
A couple of theories why: the women have something to prove: to prove they belong, to prove that this is not just a fad because of the popularity of Ronda Rousey, and to prove that they are true
The other theory is that not many women grow up as wrestlers. Many of the men are which can drive the fights to the ground. But the women’s back round seem to stem from karate, boxing, martial arts, and jiu jitsu. It seems to make for more stand up fights or really great submission techniques.
There is only one sport where I’ve said women are more fun than men to watch, and that gymnastics. Nothing to do with appearance the women are just simply better at it. It’s a sport of fluidity and the women are simply smoother.
But watching last night’s TUF18 I realized a chick fight, a one between two skilled fighters, can be almost as entertaining as the men. Almost. But the gap is closing.
And it doesn’t hurt when the hot ones fight... Rousey vs. Tate coming soon.
Talk to you at 3.
