     (WHAT THE PRODUCER THINKS)

I lost a dog, a symbol and a friend over the weekend. UGA VI, the University of Georgia's beloved mascot, passed away on Friday of heart failure.  He wasn't just a dog but a symbol of the school, a staple in the community and a great friend to everyone.  I personally never met him, but seeing him on tv and watching him sit on bags of ice when it was hot.

He was the all-time winningest UGA for the football time. 87-27 during his 9 years, 2 sec titles, 2 sugar bowl championships, 4 gymnastics national titles and plenty of times being pet by people both young and old.  UGA VI was featured in Sports Illustrated, on teh NBC Nightly News and was the special guest for a Geogia Congressman in 2002.  RIP UGA VI.

BARON HAS LEFT, BUT THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE WHO ARE HAPPY....LIKE THIS GUY

So I'm off to Israel for 10 days.  I've never traveled, so this should be pretty memorable.  I promise to bring stories when I return.  But while I'm gone, I leave you all with a thought for all 10 days.

10)  Baron Davis is a fantastic point guard.  Baron Davis is a fantastic man.  Baron Davis has no loyalty.  I understand that he wants to be closer to home with his friends and family.  I understand that he enjoys the celebrity lifestyle.  I understand that he has a future in music/movie production.  I wish him the best.  But while he remains in the NBA, it would be nice if he would have collected the 18 million dollars up in Oakland, and helped my Warriors climb back into the playoffs.  We made him the face of the city.  He was the leader of a revamped bunch of Warriors on the rise.  The Bay Area learned to love him.  He, along with Jason Richardson, combined to make up the dynamic backcourt duo that led to the monumental upset over the Mavs a couple years ago.  They are bot gone.  Now, without him, we're back to crap.  Total crap.  It's sad.  Hate to say it, but I wish him and The Clippers nothing but the worst.  The West is already too stacked to add another power.  It's how I relate to Padres fans.

9)  Will Smith needs to just stop.  Hancock?  Are you kidding.  A rebel with sunglasses who has the ability to launch himself into the sky in times of trouble.  The Fresh Prince of Bel Air hasn't made a watchable movie in years.  And he barely resembled Muhhamad Ali in Ali.  I would have casted Alfonso Ribiero for that role.

8)  The San Diego County Fair is the greatest fair on the West Coast.  This city is passionate about fried food, rides, mullets, MILFs, funnel cake, kettel corn, MILFs, and mullets.  I had an awesome time people watching during my shows this week.  Easily distracted, but that's nothing new for me.

7)  Not being able to hold my cell phone when I drive is killing me.  I hate the new law.  It's good to avoid people who crash their cars when talking on the phone, but I don't.  I don't talk on the phone and crash.  With the hands free set, I feel totally uncomfortable.  I hate change.

6)  Steve Foley deserves to give Aaron Mansker just one solid kick to the nuts.  Just one ferocious, vicious, brutal, kick to the nuts.  I understand drinking and driving is bad.  I also understand that shooting a drunk human in front of his home is pretty bad too.  But if I was a judge, that trial would not have ended until somebody's nuts were in pain.

5)  My beagle is 52 lbs.  He could play linebacker for the 49ers.  Does anybody remember when the 49ers were the greatest.  Anybody?  Anybody?  Alex Smith has one more year to prove himself.  ONE MORE YEAR!  And enough endorsements for that useless tight end Vernon Davis.  How about a couple touchdowns before another Under Armour ad.

4)  Being completely addicted to coffee is both good and bad.  It's good because it tastes so damn good (and smells even better).  It's bads because I'll never go another day in my life without a cup.  A future of yellow teeth and endless energy sounds pretty weird, but I'm committed.

3)  I'm attracted to Serena Williams.  I wonder if people would be impressed if we got married.  Our kids would be the weirdest looking tennis stars on earth.  I love her.

2)  If the Chargers leave, can we please replace them with Memphis Maniacs, or The Los Angeles Xtreme, or the New Jersey Hitmen, or the Las Vegas Outlaws, or the San Francisco Demons.  Holy S_ _ _ _!!!  Does anybody remember the XFL?  What an awful experiment.  He Hate Me!

1)  Thanks to all the listeners!  XTRA Sports is about to dominate the world!  Or, maybe just provide some quality local sports talk.  You get it, right?

I've heard people say that the NFL is full of criminals and thugs.  There may be a quite of few on every roster, but the majority of the league really is not.  Every week, there's a new story of off the field crime in the NFL.  From DUI's to domestic violence, we have gotten used to seeing professional athletes on the police blotter.  It's a shame that these stories become the focus of sports discussions.  Pacman Jones takes up much more time on sports radio shows across America than LaDainian Tomlinson.  That's sad.  Even though Steve Foley, Terrence Kiel, and even Stephen Cooper have had their problems, the Chargers roster is actually full of good guys.  I don't say that because we are a radio affiliate, I say that because it's true.  The Cincinatti Bengals may have been the exception, but in reality, the NFL is filled with great humans.  There are countless players who give to charities, read to classrooms, sign autographs, speak to schools, and create organizations to improve society as a whole.  The media fails to focus on these great men.

Last night on Sportscenter, there was a fantastic special on Ben Roethlisberger and a paralyzed kid named Akeem.  It was special to see the Pittsburgh Steelers reach out to this young man who will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.  It was part of ESPN's Make a Wish segment.  I hope every sports fan had a chance to see it.  It should be a much bigger topic for discussion, but the majority of radio hosts, writers, and bloggers will focus on the criminals and steroid abusers.  They do exist, but I would never view them as the majority of the NFL.

Negative topics get blown out of proportion.  If I talked about Ron Artest in all of my NBA segments, it would sound like one man defines a whole league.  I admit that there are a bunch of Ron Artests in the league, but we (the media as a whole) fail to shine a positive light on the role models and heroes of sports.  After seeing the impact Ben Roethlisberger made on one kid's life, I would happily call him a hero of sorts.

When Don Imus had another Don Imus moment last week, I was bummed out.  Not so much because he's an idiot, but because every radio show throughout the country would feel the need to talk about it.  That's stale.  It's unoriginal material.  Imus must love the attention, but it's really not neccesarry anymore.  We'll be aiming for fresh content on The Sportspage this week.  There's no point to rehash the takes of every sports radio host in America.  I get it:  Dogfighting is bad, Barry Bonds is bad, Pacman Jones is bad, Pete Rose is bad, steroids are bad, The Padres are bad...blah blah blah blah blah...Stay tuned for something NEW from 10am to 12pm.
